The Hosta-bilities Are Endless

Hostas

For anyone gardening in a shady location, hosta can be the answer to many of their challenges.  With hundreds of varieties, and an array of hues and textures, a visually interesting garden can be made with these sturdy perennials. Their tall scapes topped with white or lavender blooms (sometimes fragrant) are an added bonus.

For the collector, there are teeny hostas like 'Blue Mouse Ears' that are perfect in a fairy garden, as well as jumbo-sized hosta like 'Vim and Vigor'.  Foliage can be anywhere from a dusky blue-grey to a vibrant chartreuse and every shade in between, and can be edged, striped, or streaked with shades from white to creamy yellow.
