Fall Gardening

Fall trees

Our weather has finally turned cooler and the fall rains are softening the ground. Before the deep chill sets in for good, we are all trying to tie up the loose ends of the gardening season. There's clean-up, of course, storing containers, fountains and birdbaths, winterizing ponds, and the last rounds of fertilizing the lawn for spring. The really fun part as we deal with the ends of our summer gardens is planning for next year: making notes about which annuals we don't want to forget next year (and which ones we do!), planting bulbs for an early spring "surprise", and marking perennials for division and replanting at first sprout. HGTV has a nice checklist of "to-dos".
